I’ve been thinking about switching from Mint to Piwik lately, so I decided to give it a whirl. Installation was very straight forward and I like the fact that it’s open source and is being actively developed.
The API seems far more robust than what Mint offers, and I feel more confident using it knowing it will receive updates. They work on a by donation basis, which is fine by me. Sure, I paid $30 for Mint, but sometimes paid software doesn’t necessarily solidify its future. Mint was always maintained by one person, and Shaun Inman seems to have more pressing priorities, what with game development and all.
I plan to continue to run Piwik for the next few weeks, and most likely will pull the plug from Mint shortly thereafter.
