One of the major problems right now, both for non-geeky and tech-savvy people is that there is no easy way to install bookmarklets on mobile Safari on any iOS device.
One solution that I have been using lately has been working very well. Since I’m a heavy user of Dropbox (awesome service if you’re not using it), I create a text file with a snippet of javascript code that I need to install and that goes into my Dropbox folder.
Here’s what I do:
- I open my note taking app that syncs with the Dropbox service (I use Second Gear Software’s “Elements”) and copy the javascript code from the text file.
- Open Safari and bookmark any random webpage.
- Edit the bookmark and replace the URL with the javascript code I need
- Save changes and done!
This might sound like a lot of steps, but in practice if you do it, it’s actually super quick.
If you aren’t already doing this, give it a try the next time you want to install a bookmarklet in Safari on your iPhone/iPad/iPod Touch.
