Staying “Cool”

I do love Steve Wozniak, but he really has no idea what he’s talking about when it comes to Apple most of the time. He think Apple needs to stay “cool” and open up iTunes to Android and Windows Phone. Apple does not need to do that to stay “cool.”

What Apple needs to do is what whatever they feel is best so that they can keep putting out innovative, interesting, intuitive, and fun products. I’ll tell you what they don’t need — opening up iTunes to competing mobile platforms such as the ones mentioned by Woz. Apple already has the most successful music store that has ever existed. It shows continual growth year-over-year. So what value could be added by supporting other devices? Sure, perhaps they would gain some more users, but that’s far from the point. Apple doesn’t need those people. Besides, iCloud is steadily becoming a far more richer and integral part of the iTunes experience–something I don’t believe Apple would ever consider opening up.

You can find some other really bizarre comments by him in a recent interview he did with Bloomberg:

We used to have these ads, I’m a Mac and I’m a PC, and the Mac was always the cool guy. And ouch, it’s painful, because we kind of are losing that.

So because Apple ended that ad campaign, suddenly they’re losing their cool factor? And here I thought the products spoke for themselves, whilst the ads were merely a venue for sharing with the world what their latest creation can help them achieve.
